Neutral

  • A'vana has no desire to settle down. Their true love is adventuring, and they desire to travel to every corner of the star! Although they are kind and quite caring, it is clear that they have a barrier around their heart and prefer to keep others at a comfortable distance.

  • They are married to their work. It can lead them to push their own needs away in favor of helping everybody else. They need constant reminders to slow down, or else they'll fall asleep at their desk or surrounded by a mountain of books in their study.

  • They enjoy fighting and pushing their body to its limits in order to become more powerful. They secretly yearn to face a worthy opponent. A few close friends match their strength and are able to safely spar with them.

Negative

  • A'vana tends to bottle up their frustration until it's impossible to keep it contained. The slightest bit of pressure could be all it takes to make the bottle explode.

  • If A'vana's kindness is misused or manipulated, gods help the person who scorned them. Her heart is very fragile, and once it is wounded she is slow to forgive. She tries not to hold grudges, but it is difficult to temper her anger.

  • Never wanting to burden others, A'vana shoulders most of her problems alone. This makes her feel quite lonely despite being surrounded by so many good friends.

Hooks

  • Need something crafted? A'vana is an omnicrafter! When they're not busy adventuring, they like to keep their hands busy by making clothes, gifts for friends, and wares to sell at the market.

  • Are you curious about the celestial markings that decorate A'vana's skin? They seem to be more than just magical tattoos or flashy glamour.

  • A'vana is a voracious reader. Maybe you find her reading an old tome or a spicy romance novel and wish to chat?

  • Any other ideas are welcome, just send a message!

Rumors

  • You've heard whispers about A'vana being a powerful witch who's strong enough to bring eikons to heel. Some claim to have seen her fight off powerful beasts and armies that threatened the safety of the realm. Perhaps you wish to know if the stories are true.

  • You've overheard some Gridanians speak of a white-haired miqo'te who claims she can hear the voices of the elementals and commune with them. How could that be possible if she isn't a Padjal?

  • Some Lominsans still make mention of "The Ghost of La Noscea." It's become an urban legend, a warning for bandits and brigands that if they caused harm, the Ghost would appear and strike them all down. The descriptions of the "ghost" vary, but it's always a pale haired miqo'te woman with brown skin.

Past

Hundreds of years ago, a small sect of Seekers devoted their lives to serving the elementals, traveling throughout the woods to heed their will. Very few Seekers in these clans were born with the elementals' blessing: the gift of hearing the voices of nature spirits. Only a handful per generation were born Hearers, and they were destined to become their clan's sages. They stayed hidden from the Padjals, believing that their powers were best served outside of the Twelveswood healing the world's wounds. They were expected to go on yearly pilgrimage and return with knowledge and resources that helped the clan thrive. When A'vana was born, however, the age of adventuring Miqo'te Hearers had long since passed. Her powers manifested when she could barely walk, and ever since she was confined within the borders of her tribe's encampment. The land was growing more dangerous, and the elementals were growing increasingly displeased, which lead the Gridanian Seekers to go into hiding. She grew up as a cloistered White Mage, longing for a life filled with adventure, but their duty to their tribe and family came first. In the years leading up to the Calamity, increasing Garlean occupation forced A'vana's clan to move frequently. Eventually, when Dalamud fell, A'vana's tribe was cornered by Imperial forces. The Garleans were ruthless in killing them, and they razed their sacred grounds to ash. Very few women, children, and elderly villagers were able to flee by boat. the able-bodied stayed behind to fight off the Imperial troops. A'vana was one of those brave souls who protected their homeland to the bitter end, saving dozens of lives before they were struck down, their body tossed into the water.Five years later, she was miraculously found by a Lominsan pirate. She washed up on the shores of Lower La Noscea, frail and barely clinging to life. Captain Rosenthorne was not a charitable man by nature, but he could never turn up his nose at the suffering of others, so he plucked this strange Miqo'te from the scorched sands and carried her aboard The Merryweather. She was homeless, nameless, and a walking corpse by all accounts. Every member of his crew believed he was a fool for expending the ship's resources on her care.By the Twelve's blessing, or as the captain preferred to say, "Bloody impossible luck," she made a full recovery. It was actually thanks to the Blessing of Light that A'vana's body was able to survive for so long, but it came at a heavy cost. It took weeks for her voice to return, but any memory of the life and powers she had remained lost. Captain Rosenthorne decided that as long as she made herself useful, she could formally join his crew. That solved the homeless issue, but they were still nameless, so it fell upon the captain to give her one.As a ward of his ship, it was only fitting to share his surname. He recalled spotting small bands of aurelia drifting near her battered body, so he settled on that as their new name. Aurelia was dubbed "the ghost of La Noscea" by the crew, mostly as a joke at first, but as she grew stronger they quickly learned to respect and fear her. Like the jellyfish they were named after, Aurelia's beauty disarmed their foes, which made them all the more deadly. They stung like a jellyfish: hard and fast, their magic leaving any unsuspecting whelp covered in deep, stinging wounds if they dared to get too close.Aurelia parted ways with the Captain when it was time for her to strike out on her own. She became a powerful mage, mastering the art of summoning, red magic, and other arcane arts. Not unlike a rose, Aurelia was beautiful with razor-sharp thorns that could draw blood if one was not gentle with handling them. She made a name for herself as Eorzea's champion, earning the moniker "The Celestial Rose." She met similarly gifted adventurers and together they established their own Free Company. It began as a small home that they could come to in between missions and excursions for fame, glory, and treasure. Over time, it blossomed into a full-blown adventurer's guild.

Present

During Shadowbringers & Endwalker, "Aurelia" regained most of her memories during her myriad adventures as a Warrior of Light. Their hair, once the same soft, delicate hue as her eyes, is now white as snow from storing so much light-aspected aether at once. The incident also caused celestial aether scars to form all over their body. These scars periodically pulse with light, which gives A'vana chronic pain. The innocence she had during her early days of adventuring are lost, but her bright spirit can never be snuffed out- even should it threaten to drown in the deepest darkness, or be dissipated by searing light.Aurelia— now and forever A'vana— sought out more information on the clan she was raised in and how Garlean occupation and the chaos of the Calamity displaced her from them. After all the bloodshed A'vana had endured, she turned to studying her newly discovered gift as a Hearer of elemental spirits. She became a powerful white mage and vowed to use her gifts to heal rather than harm. Make no mistake, however: if anyone crossed A'vana or threatened their beloved star, they would face her primordial wrath.Leading into the events of Dawntrail, A'vana received intel on a girl named A'mitola Sol, a miqo'te from the same clan A'vana was separated from. Apparently she had migrated to the New World after the Calamity and became a renowned adventurer in her own right, helping the Turali people with the art of Pictomancy.A'mitola, knowing her family was lost to the Calamity (and assumed A'vana was lost to her as well), vowed to be just like her sibling whose one wish was to explore the world beyond their tribe. During A'vana's travels in Tural, she was able to find A'mitola's old mentor residing in a Hhetsaro settlement- but A'mitola was nowhere to be found. She had recently embarked to Yyasulani in search of a rare flower that produced a potent aetheric pigment when crushed.Unfortunately, A'mitola never came home. She died while protecting helpless villagers from a horde of beasts. When A'vana arrived, she was devastated to learn that she was too late to save her sister. On top of that, she received confirmation that the rest of their tribe did not survive the calamity, leaving A'vana as the sole survivor. All that remained of A'mitola was her old rose roundbrush and a sparkling stone, which her friends had kept in order to preserve her memory.Sometime after A'vana's return from Tural... A'vana struggled with more than just grief: they had an imbalance of aether as a result of overusing their powers. Their aether scars caused them unbearable chronic pain, and she grew weaker by the day as their own aether threatened to consume them. They spent many moons researching a solution, consulting with the greatest aetherologists in Sharlayan and Thavnair. Eventually a remedy was found, and the key was their carbuncle familiar Ruby. The little carbuncle expressed a desire to become human, which required a vast amount of aether in addition to dynamis, which the carbuncle discovered she could manipulate. In her new human form, Ruby felt A'mitola's stone call out to her soul. Upon picking it up, her mind became flooded with A'mitola's memories and skills as a Pictomancer. It turned out the small, unassuming keepsake was a soul stone, retaining a fragment of her power upon her death.Currently, A'vana is helping Ruby navigate her new life and taking it easy now that their investigation in Tural has concluded.
